Week of October 26

We focused on 'e' and 'r' in FUNdations this week.

Letter formation with whiteboards and markers.

Four Winds: We talked about seeds and how they travel. This lesson fit into the big picture of Four WInds because seed dispersal is an important part of a life cycle.

Air, animals, and even water acts as a "travel agent" for seeds.

Children had the chance to split open a lima bean to look at the parts of a seed.

We enjoyed our science observations outside on our school grounds. We searched for and collected various seeds.

Sunflower seeds from the CCS gardens.

Cat tails...

Milkweed travels through the air when the wind blows.

Good luck milk weed seeds!

Firefighter Chris visited us for CCS fire safety day. We talked about fire safety and practices some ways to stay safe around a fire. We also talked about a home safety plan and establishing a safe place to meet outside in the event of an emergency inside the house.

We talked about toys vs. fire tools and what is safe to play with compared to adult tools.

That's Ms. Rowntree dressed up in firefighting gear.

A firefighter crawled around the floor so we could hear what it sounds like when the oxygen is on. Even though it might sound scary, firefighters are there to protect us.

Stop, Drop and Roll presentation...

...and practice.

Pencil and paper letter formation practice.

Word wall word of the week..."or". Perfect for the phrase of the week TRICK OR TREAT.

I read this book to get creative writing ideas flowing so children could draw and write about what they will dress up as for Halloween.

Children cut out words then glued them into sentence order.

Next, they drew pictures of themselves dressed up for Halloween. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

More fire safety pictures with hats on.

Mrs Brady read is true story about a basketball player who wishes he was taller so he could be a better basketball player. His mom suggests that he eats vegetables, and put salt in his shoes. He continues to practice  and his dad reminds him that he already is a basketball player and has what it takes to become better with practice and determination. We talked about how this story isn't different than being in kindergarten...everyday we do hard work, grow our brains and persevere.

Mrs. Brady prepare 'perseverance capes' for the children to decorate to remind them they are perseverance superstars.

We talk a ton about PERSEVERANCE in kindergarten.

Theme activity in Work Board. Shredding paper to make fall trees, and writing practice of the  word "the".

I invited children to paint big green circles...

...but kept the reason why a surprise.

The following day I read this book.

And children created their own Big Green Monsters.

Bats go well with Halloween, so we read several bat books this week.

Then labeled the parts of a bat in the ABC work board station.

Stampin 10 Frames book.

Children practice reading numerals 1-20...

...and stamp the corresponding amount on the ten frames.

All dressed and ready for the CCS Halloween parade.
