Week of November 9

FUNdations letters of the week.

Letter formation lesson with whiteboards and markers.

Word wall words of the week.

Book center. The children highlighted 'here' and we added it to the word wall.

We have been talking a great deal about reading strategies for kindergarten.

This month's calendar focuses on 2-d and 3-d shapes.

Each day that a new 3-d shape is introduced is super exciting. I show the children how a flat shape can be used to make a new solid shape.

A rectangle can be turned into a cylinder.

A circle and sphere both have curved sides with no points or straight sides.

I cut a play doh sphere in half and we talked about semi circles, or hemispheres.

When you squish a hemisphere it changes into a flat circle.

The base of a cone is a circle.

I made a cone by cutting a circle half way through and taping the cut sides together.

Now that we have lots of sight words in our word wall, children are creating sentences. This writing prompt is, "what do you like to do on weekends?"
I like to read.

Rereading writing helps writers stay on track and write their sentences without skipping g or repeating words.

Turkey and poem activity in the theme area of Workboard.

Gobble, gobble, gobble!

Mr. Bianchi taught our first tech lesson on iPads. He talked about an app called Story Kit.

The children worked together...

...to take pictures of book covers...

...and record why they like that book.

All smiles 😃

We all signed the banner as a way to promise that we will use our kindergarten skills to be kind, respectful people.
