Week of December 14 & December 21

This week we will be enjoying a mini unit on the Gingerbread Boy and the many versions of this classic winter story. Today we read the original story. Stay tuned for more fun activities...

Story Map of the Gingerbread Boy. We talked about the setting, main character, beginning, middle and end. Children colored, cut and identified the above aspects of the story.

Just a few versions of gingerbread stories.

The children really loved the writing prompt to decorate a gingerbread person and write a sentence. Our writing goal  for today was to be able to go back and read our own sentence. "The gingerbread girl."

"gingerbread Ms. Rowntree".

"I am a cat."

We displayed gingerbread people and gingerbread writing.

I love this winter themed book. It inspired some beautiful winter art...

..children learned how to to crayon resistance and watercolor artwork.

A snowy scene.

A core math idea this week was learning about skip counting, specifically by 2's.

We worked with pair-wise tens frames and number racks to practice skip counting by 2's.

This month's calendar focuses on direction words.

The Annual Kindergarten Gingerbread Decorating Event was a success :)

Thank you all for the festive candies...

...and for taking the time to visit our classroom for this fun (and sticky) event.
